Traveling the way I am doing it is so much about being here and now. You cannot expect tomorrow to be a better day than today because if you expect, you will feel very bad if it isn’t. You cannot expect it to be worse because then you will start feeling bad right now.
Some days are rainy, some are sunny. Just the current moment matters. It’s sunny now, and I am happy about this, but will not think what will be in the afternoon.
It does not matter, that I have good shoes at home, I needed to buy ones right now because the ones I left with seemed to be very uncomfortable for long-term cycling.
Food – it’s good when I’m in a shop and can buy whatever I want. Usually, only what I have right now matters.
I cannot wait for better times because at bad times there are some tasks to do. Protecting myself and my belongings from rain for example. You do not think about how will it be later, you just protect right now. Every second counts.
You cannot just enjoy good times because there are also tasks to do . You should make many things while you can – dry clothes, eat dinner, write a post. I only post when I have wi-fi, not just when I want to. Each second counts.
You can not expect anything, just react and react.
But reacting does not mean, that I should not have a dream to pursue or strategy to follow. No. Reacting is just along the way. I should follow the road if I want to reach my destination. But the destination is determined by me and only me. The road is chosen by me and only me.
I’ve chosen to go around the Baltic States with a bicycle. And also set a route. Now I’m just following the chosen road, reacting to it. Now it’s sunny and I found a bus stop with a bench to sit, so I am writing a post. If I find wi-fi I’ll post it on my blog. If no – then no.
Just stay in the present moment as much as possible. Protecting yourself at bad times and making the best of good times. Also, dream whenever you can and pursue your dreams. Make strategies and follow them. But always stay in here and now.
From a diary of The Baltic Connection – 33 days long bicycle trip.
